Emeli Sandé visited our friends at Dutch radio station 3FM this morning to perform a few acoustic tracks, including "Heaven" and a very special cover of Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." Set to the instantly emotive sound of a cello and acoustic guitar, Sandé shows off her incredible vocal chops and turns the original track into a ballad of majestic proportions. Sandé makes you feel every single emotion of the song right from your toes up. So incredibly soulful. The Aberdeen singer/songwriter was in Holland to promote her new single "Daddy and forthcoming debut album "Our Version Of Events." Watch a video of the performance after the break. Get ready to be moved.
Swedish electro alt-pop outfit Icona Pop is releasing their much anticipated debut EP "Nights Like This" today. The EP is filled with soaring synths, deliciously cheering vocals and Atari-esque electronica that artists like Frankmusik would salivate over.
Icona Pop are the duo of Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt who met by chance on a night out in Stockholm. Aino was "looking to get over her recent break up" and met Caroline as they connected over a love of music, fashion and a good night out on the town.
Soon after, the two girlfriends quickly started working together on songs for the newly formed Icona Pop with producers such as Patrick Berger (Robyn, Darren Hayes) and Elof Loelv (Niki and the Dove).
The "Nights Like This" EP features the Berger-produced "Manners," which has not only garnered support from early adopter pop fans but also Dolce & Gabbana and Kitsuné, and the song was even sampled on Chiddy Bang's "Mind Your Manners" single from their debut LP "Breakfast."
Check out the title track from "Night Like This," which is best described as a hearty brew of crunchy, well orchestrated synth pop that is not only very quirky but also very catchy and totally fun. Lyrically, the song seems to have been inspired by that wild night on the town when Aino and Caroline first met and decided to work together. (Purchase the EP on iTunes.)
After tracks like "Four Floors" and "Self Control," emerging British pop singer bursts back onto the pop scene with the official video for her very good new single, "Love U More." Looking stylish and acting fly, Sunday Girl sure looks the part in her cover of Sunscreem's 1992 original. When I met Sunday Girl backstage at Ellie Goulding's Hammersmith Apollo show in London late last year she confided that her lush locks are the work of her stylist boyfriend. So now you know. Watch Sunday Girl's "Love U More" video after the break and make sure to grab RAC's excellent remix.
David Guetta and Usher share some candid insights about the forthcoming "Without You" video in new behind-the-scenes and interview footage that was released on Vevo.
In true Guetta style, the video will depict a world without borders in which everyone dances to the beat of his universal drum. "It's one world (. . .) it's all about the love and the music," Guetta explains in the behind the scenes video. "It's one big party!"
Guetta's collaboration with Usher on "Without You" is one of Guetta finest collaborations to date that brings his ambition of bridging European dance music and American R&B to life. In fact, I think that Usher's heartfelt performance on "Without You" is one of the singer's most noteworthy accomplishments in recent years. It's fresh, original, and most importantly, it's sung from the heart.
In the behind the scenes footage, the Atlanta based R&B icon talks a little bit more about what inspired the song and the bittersweet qualities it so perfectly captures. "When we talked about doing a record together, I remember [David] saying that he wanted it to be something where you would be so happy but you're crying at the same time on the middle of the dancefloor," Usher explains with Guetta by his side. "Some of the greatest experiences of your life happen at those moments. And we wanted to give you that moment in the song."
Watch the behind the scenes video after the break. The full-length video for "Without You" will premiere in the next few days. (Listen to "Without You" for free on Rdio.)
