Following in the footsteps of Alan Braxe, Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and other French dancefloor greats, fresh-faced DJ/producer Madeon brings a similar sonic intensity to his work that combines sweeping dance beats, soulful transitions and steady pop sensibilities. Madeon has that "French touch" if you will, serving up a sparkly sound that is energetic yet subtle and delicate.
Check out a teaser video for his new single "Icarus" to get a taste of how his own artist work is developing after we previously heard his mash ups and remixes for others. The song's title is a reference to the classic Greek myth about young Icarus who built wings to fly away and escape from imprisonment. It's a proper metaphor for the disco escapism Madeon wants to invoke on the dance floor.
In a recent interview, Madeon talks a little bit more about his point of view when it comes to crafting dance music. "The main goal of my style was to implement the detailed glitchy aspect of electro in a more melodic pop context," he says. "I like the idea of having a continuous melody that is played subsequently by various, sometimes unrelated, instruments. It adds an element of timbre variation to the composition."
"It's the style I'm exploring right now, but I'm also heavily influenced by straight-up pop producers, the biggest being Stuart Price. I have a heavy fascination for simple, yet striking pop productions," he adds.
The production prodigy also talks a little bit more about what inspired him to make music. "I first got into music in general when I was eleven, upon watching Daft Punk's film Interstella 5555. There was something so beautiful about those instrumental, yet narrative songs. I started producing house music a couple of years later. I don't live in a very musical family, so the passion pretty much came out of nowhere."
