Producers and DJs love to toy around with dubstep. It's the sound of the moment and after Britney Spears pushed it into the mainstream on "Hold It Against Me," it seems many have jumped on the dubstep bandwagon to make their music sound contemporary and fresh. But with all that wild sonic experimentation, it is easy to go overboard and use dubstep merely as meaningless sound effect to popularize a sound.
Not so with Krewella's "One Minute." Consisting of Chicago sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf and beatmaker Rain Man, Krewella has found a way to create a fresh slice of pop that includes just the right amount of dubstep that stays true to their melodic dance pop roots.
Introduced by a sparkly, catchy melody, the song switches gears when it kicks into the chorus and unleashes a snarling dubstep drop. It's as if the song transports you back and forth between a balmy summer night in Ibiza to the grungy London underground throughout the song. It's tastefully done and fits the sexually-charged undertones of the song. Download it after the break.
Are you ready for some goose bumps? Check out a totally guilt-free MP3 download of a gorgeous acoustic version of Marina & The Diamonds' new single "Radioactive." The original is a major pop production courtesy of Stargate, but Marina tones it down on this acoustic rendition which neatly underlines the timeless quality of the original. It's simple. With or without the big, blazing soundboard treatment, Marina's emotive and one-of-a-kind vocals stand strong no matter the production its wrapped in. Download this special version after the break.
