[FIRST LISTEN] Rihanna "We Found Love" (featuring Calvin Harris)

Rihanna-we-found-love-cover

One of the best things about Rihanna's highly-anticipated new single is that Calvin Harris did not compromise his sound. Seamlessly fusing his eclectic DIY soundboard savvy with Rihanna's soaring vocals is a match made in dance-pop heaven. In fact, "We Found Love" is the perfect way for Rihanna to push her global and unstoppable brand of dance-pop to exciting new heights.

With its euphoric and irresistible chorus, quirky sound effects, full-throttle dancefloor cresendoes and hard-pounding groove, "We Found Love" is the ultimate dance-pop crossover tune that will have your hands in the air and pumping your fists whether you want it or not. In fact, "We Found Love" is dance-pop with a big, fat capital D. This is not about deep lyrical substance, this is about having a good time.

And quite frankly, as a Dutchman who grew up on chunky diet of dance and electronica, it blows my mind to think that a dance tune of this calibre is about to take over top 40 radio in the U.S. for months to come. Dance music has arrived stateside and is not going anywhere anytime soon. And imagine for a moment Rihanna performing this song at the GRAMMYs next year. Wow.  She's a GRAMMY winner after all who picked up the GRAMMY for Best Dance Recording earlier this year.

Kudos to Rihanna and her Roc Nation team for taking a risk and introducing Calvin Harris to a much wider, American mainstream audience. This single will not only turn him into a global superstar of the David Guetta kind, but it will also give Rihanna plenty of firepower to build chart momentum in anticipation of her forthcoming new LP that will be released on November 21. [FIRST LISTEN] Yasmin ft Shy FX & Ms Dynamite "Light Up (The World)"

Artworks-000011827271-p9fanp-crop

While the pop world is infatuated with dubstep and straight up dance-pop, DJ turned singer Yasmin confidently ventures into different sonic territory on her excellent new single "Light Up." The grinding, genre-mashing pop tune was produced by Shy FX and features the legendary London rapper Ms Dynamite. "Light Up" is the follow up to Yasmin's U.K. break out hit "Finish Line" that was produced by Labrinth.

Steering away from a sound that is too glossy, simply satisfies the taste of the moment or is downright predictable, "Light Up" is refreshingly original and different than most pop fare that is ruling the charts. There's always exciting new pop to be made and this new "Light Up" is proof of that. The song seamlessly combines pop, reggae, dance and breakbeat while sticking to the club-friendly 140BPM tempo.

"Light Up" neatly captures the sound of the London underground that is courtesy of Shy FX (aka Andre Williams) who is one of Britain's finest jungle and drum 'n bass producers. He has produced track for people like Dizzee Rascal, Kano and Plan B, and he also worked with Yasmin on her first single "On My Own."

If the track's blazing groove and Yasmin's polished, soulful delivery wasn't enough, award-winning rapper and singer Ms Dynamite makes a cameo and spices up "Light Up" with some of her signature lyrical spunk. Listen to the Yasmin ft Shy FX & Ms Dynamite "Light Up (The World)" after the break.

[FREE MP3] Bossy Love "Opposites Attract"

Bossy Love just loves the eighties and is not afraid to show it. I earlier posted that little snappy number "Fool Of Love" and there's a whole lot more synthy goodness waiting to be unleashed from the vault where that track came from. Point in case is Bossy Love's latest greatest "Opposites Attract," another totally fun pop concoction that was recorded as a bit of homage to Paul Abdul's '80s classic with the same title.

Set to a groovy, hypnotic synth beat and anchored by the instantly infectious "oooh" hook, Bossy Love stays her classy, sassy and subtly flirty self on "Opposites Attract" while attempting to do some damage control with a love that appears in need of a reset. She purrs, chants and admits that she "messed it up again" but gently explains that "opposites attract, I think you ougtha know that."

It may or may not come as a surprise that Bossy Love's vocals are reminiscent of other familiar pop greatness. Her identity is tightly veiled in mystery but that makes it quite frankly way more fun. All that matters is that Bossy Love is having good fun with this new music and wants to share it with us. Grab Bossy Love "Opposites Attract" after the break.
