The first thing that struck me about the music of emerging London singer/songwriter Tala is her arresting vocal delivery that has distinct classical leanings and packs a powerful punch. Check out a totally guilt-free MP3 download of "Rainbow," the title track from her self-released EP. The song is a straight up, glossy pop tune with a hooky chorus that stands out mostly because of Tala's distinct vocal performance.
Tala is a former Brit School student and a classically trained pianist. She began writing music at age 7, scoring classical pieces and gradually ventured out in pop as a performer while attending college. She often credits her classical training but also her Persian background as major influences for her music.
"Rainbow" is the lead single from Tala's free EP, but there are a few other tracks from the "Rainbow" EP I suggest putting your ear to as well.
The grinding "Heartstrings" brilliantly combines snappy classical strings with a spitfire trip hop beat and Tala's emotive vocals to create a very unique and fresh brew of pop music. "Be Back Soon" is a beautiful, electro-edged ballad that starts out sparse with a simple piano riff but soars into a mild drum 'n bass concoction that neatly shows off Tala's production savvy.
Tala's eclectic brand of pop crescendos on the powerful and atmospheric piano ballad "Indigo" that tells the story of two lovers lost and will surely pull a few of your heartstrings. "They called her Indigo, but somewhere near the color blue, she didn't know where to go," Tala chants. It's some gut-wrenching pop that music supervisors will salivate over and that you should take note of. Watch "Rainbow" and listen to "Indigo" after the break.
You may remember that I first alerted you about "Lego" when The Stereotypes first unleashed that crispy hip pop tune back in April. The song marks the first time that the GRAMMY-nominated production trio steps into the limelight as performers together with MC Three with whom they formed new outfit Jon MCXRO as their artist effort.
The group just released a colorful music video for "Lego" that includes cameos by their pals of Far East Movement and Chester French's D.A. Wallach. The video also prominently shows Jon MCXRO doing what they do best - orchestrating snappy beats and cooking up a whole lotta dancefloor swagger for the kids to groove to.
If you're not too familiar with the work of the The Stereotypes then this is a good moment to get caught up. The L.A. based trio has crafted hits for artists like Danity Kane, Ne-Yo, Justin Bieber, Melanie Fiona, Natasha Bedingfield and Chris Brown. They have also been an instrumental part of the success of Far East Movement as executive producers of "Free Wired."
But even tough The Stereotypes are passionate about writing and producing for other people, they have been eager to satisfy their creative urges and release their own artist material. And "Lego" is their first major push to do that. Paced by a hypnotic, laid-back beat, "Lego" brings a whole lotta sizzle to dancefloor that will get the party started the second it hits. It's cool and collected while still being a gigantic club banger. Watch the video for "Lego" by Jon MCXRO after the break.
Benny Blanco's spick and span production of Britney Spears' "Drop Dead Beautiful" gets a massive dancefloor make-over on this remix of Alex Fray and Jason Edward (aka Chick In Club). The DJ duo doesn't stray away too far from the original track but adds some menacing big room synth chords to intensify the dance sensibilities of the song and neatly accentuate the original infectious pop sensibilities. Listen to it after the break. If you like what you hear, look up Chick In Club's remixes of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night."
