The freshly released video for Professor Green's new single "Read All About It" perfectly matches the emotive quality and the incredibly touching story of the song.
In the lyrics of "Read All About It," the Hackney rapper opens up and and speaks about the death of his father who committed suicide when he was 18 years old. Like I wrote previously, Professor Green had not been in touch with his dad for six years prior to his passing.
The chart-topping Green tries to come to grips with his conflicting emotions of anger, guilt and disappointment on this new single. He raps, "You were never kin to me. Family is something you've never been to me. As a kid I looked up to you. Only thing was I never saw enough of you. I wonder what I did to you to make you hate me. I ain't censoring myself for nobody. I'm the only thing I can be. All that is good, all that is bad, all that is me."
The video for the song shows a young Professor Green watching scenes from his childhood and revisiting the memories they caused. In the final scene of the video, the present and the past collide to give Professor Green closure and peace with what cannot be changed.
Those moments are interspersed by scenes with power vocalist Emeli Sande who anchors the song with her powerful and incredibly soulful vocals. "Read All About It" is taken from the heart and this video stay true to that quality. Watch it after the break.
Natalia Kills is currently in Europe on her very first headlining show trekking across the continent to perform songs from her debut album "Perfectionist." For the past few days, she has been in Germany where a Kills fan captured some rockin' performance of hew single "Free" in Hamburg. Watch it after the break.
What I love about this footage is that it not only shows how much Kills' show has evolved in the last year, but it also emphasizes how much Kills is in her element on stage backed by a full band and totally coming into her own as an artist and performer. Make sure to go see her in a town near you soon.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's pop prodigy MNEK who has unleashed a brand-new single that is lightning up the pop universe and impacting the scene like a comet dropping from the sky.
Check out his excellent new, neon-colored concoction "If Truth Be Told" that innovatively combines his knack for melody with his fine soundboard savvy and his love for retro '80s sonic stylings. The song will be released on November 7 on Moshi Mosh Records.
Only 16 years-old, MNEK is an incredibly talented producer who has been working with many other up and comers, including Florrie and The Saturdays. In fact, he co-wrote The Saturday's "All Fired Up" together with Xenomania that is currently a top 5 hit in the U.K. He also has produced some banging remixes for Frankmusik, CocknBullKid, Duran Duran, Florrie and his good pal Tinie Tempah.
The self-proclaimed "anti-teen pop star" even caught the ear of Kelis with his "Stunting On These Hoes" beat and Nike who featured "Lunar Riddim" in a television campaign. And more MNEK goodness is coming. He writes me, "Good shit on the horizon, people, good shit."
You may remember that I first alerted you about MNEK and this new single when I posted his demo of "If Truth Be Told" back in 2009 alongside his "Devil In Pumps." He wrote the song after he ended up in detention after being late for a science lesson.
The tune's incredibly catchy hook remains, but he buffed up the song's production and gave it a glossy new shine that is quite frankly too irresistible to be denied. Instantly infectious and totally fun. Highly recommended. Watch and listen MNEK "If Truth Be Told" after the break and make sure to download it in a digital store near you on November 7.
