After writing about new music for the past 9 years (time flies!), I'm thrilled to be launching my new ARTIST #TALK series in partnership with HP tonight. And you can be a part of it! Read on to learn how.

The ARTIST #TALK is truly extension of the interviews I do for this blog. The intent is to tell artists' stories and give them the opportunity to talk more in-depth about their music, inspiration and creative process. Think of it as a gallery talk where a painter would be chatting about their latest piece of art. Yes, we may get a little academic and serious, but it will sure be lots of fun.

The very first ARTIST #TALK guest is none other than British superstar rapper Tinie Tempah. After he signed with Parlophone Records in the U.K. in 2009, his debut single "Pass Out" went straight to number one. Four hits singles followed, and his debut album "Disc-overy" was certified double platinum earlier this year. Now, Tempah is bringing his fresh blend of pop, dance and hip hop to American shores.  His powerful anthem "Written In The Stars" was a big Billboard Top 100 hit and the song was recently picked as the soundtrack to MLB's fall season.

And let's not forget Tinie Tempah just scooped up the very first Back To Future Nike Mags in support of Michael J Fox's charity, which he has not commented on publicly yet.

#TALK WITH US! I strongly encourage you to participate in the event tonight. Tweet your thoughts, questions and other observations using the "ARTIST #TALK" hashtag. Make sure to include @arjanwrites, @hp and @tinietempah in your tweets so we can capture it and bring it up in the ARTIST #TALK tonight. All your involvement means the world to me.

[GIG REVIEW] Good Music Rules at 2011 Virgin Mobile FreeFest

Despite flooding and almost 2 straight weeks of rain that had cursed Columbia, MD, it seems Mother Nature must be a fan of good music as nothing but sunny skies and over 50,000 smiles filled the Merriweather Post Pavillion for Virgin Mobile's 6th annual FreeFest.

With its 3rd year being free to the public, people of all different ages and all different musical perceptions came together to enjoy some ofthe big named acts as well as a few of the most prominent up and coming bands. And it was not just about free music, it was also about supporting Virgin Mobile's Re:Generation Project that supports local charities assisting homeless kids.

From Indie Pop, to Hip-Hop, and even fist pumping dance music, Virgin Mobile continued it's goal of keeping up with the hottest new bands and the biggest sound for their festival. With three different stages (the Pavillion, the West Stage and the Dance Forest) there was constantly something going on for everybody to enjoy

Opening the day off at the Pavillion stage was Bicycle Bombay Club who brought their indie-pop and folk fuse together as the early crowd started to slowly venture in. With a mellow sound and relaxed style, Bombay provided the perfect trance music to the thousands of fans and bees (a lot of bees!!) that were buzzing about the day's activities.

Making the journey over to the West Stage, food vendors, a skating ramp and a Ferris Wheel were a few of the side happenings to give fans further enjoyment to the already exciting atmosphere. Once arriving to the West Stage, many were presented the sound of Two Door Cinema Club, easily judged as a crowd favorite deeming by the number of shirts throughout the venue.
