The much-anticipated video for Adele's "Someone Like You," the second single from her feverishly successful sophomore album "21," will premiere this Thursday evening on MTV and online at Vevo.com at exactly 7:56pm EDT.
Directed by Jake Nava (Beyonce, Kanye West), the video is described in a press releases as "minimal and graceful." The music video was shot entirely on location in Paris during the very early morning to provide a visual aesthetic that matches the arresting beauty of the song. "The location evokes style and romance," Nava explains, "and shooting early in the morning allows you to focus on Adele in this lonely and emotional space."
"Someone Like You" has already been certified platinum for sales in excess of one million downloads. Adele's "21" is the biggest selling album of 2011 with over 10 million units sold worldwide. "21" has remained in the top 3 of Billboard's Top Album charts for 30 weeks since its release on February 22.
Today, Frankmusik releases his much-anticipated new album "Do It In The AM" in North America after it was also released in the U.K. yesterday. Inspired by his time living out in Los Angeles and tapping into his reinvigorated creative mojo, "Do It In The AM" marks an exciting creative milestone for the British pop singer, writer and producer. He neatly fuses his signature electro pop with a clubbier American pop groove that further evolves his distinct and brilliant pop sound that he first presented on "Complete Me."
It's a natural artistic progression for the singer that has led to a finely-tuned collection of songs that is sure to please both existing fans and make many new ones everywhere. I first met Frankmusik in person back in April of 2010 when he just started working on "Do It In The AM" and let me listen to a few rough demos. Since then, I have checked in with the singer on several occasions. His music has evolved quite a bit but his vision for this new album has always remained the same.
Frankmusik is currently on tour with synth pop legends Erasure and zig-zagging across North America to introduce more people to his new songs. The singer also produced Erasure's 14th studio LP "Tomorrow's World" to give the music of the iconic group a vibrant new pop coating that is very them and very now. Frankmusik has been very humbled by the experience and has been eager to talk about it.
On a recent tour stop in Atlanta, GA, I caught up with Frankmusik to talk about "Do It In The AM," touring with Erasure and working on the duo's album. We literally filmed this in a dressing room below the stage and if you listen closely you can hear Andy Bell and Vince Clark stirring the crowd one floor higher. Ever since Justin Timberlake left the (music) stage to focus on film, there hasn't been a male pop singer who has followed in his footsteps and garnered the respect the way he did. Several young male artists are building up a career to recreate Timberlake's success, but as of right now the field is wide open to fill the void that the superstar has left behind.
While the pop ladies are running the show and owning the charts, there are a few exciting new male artists to keep your eyes and ears on. Meet for example pop newcomer CJ Holland, a rapidly emerging new pop talent who is a strong contender to be a powerful new force in pop.
Walking a fine balance between heartthrob and accomplished musician, Holland is a natural-born entertainer who is the total pop package. He sings, dances, writes, and he brings a swagger and soul to his music that will appeal to both the ladies and the gents. And add to the mix his camera-ready good looks and what you end up with is a hot new talent to reckon with.
Hailing from Smyrna, Tennessee, CJ got his start in the music industry as part of kid group Next Generation when he was only 8 years old. Initially lauded for his dancing skills, CJ felt that there was a whole lot more he could do than perform a tightly-orchestrated choreography. He tuned his vocal abilities while working on his writing skills and after Ellen DeGeneres asked him to perform on her show he was noted by the savvy folks at Universal Republic/Lava Records who signed him to their roster. Holland is now getting groomed for the big time by the same people that brought us Jessie J.
Grab a totally guilt-free MP3 of CJ Holland's buzz tune "Night & Day" that was written by hitmaker Claude Kelly and produced by JR Rotum. It's a soulful and brilliantly performed brassy soul pop stomper with a distinct urban flair that is quite frankly too irresistible to be denied and is sure to be appreciated by audiences far and wide.
"Night & Day" is the perfect kick off to what is shaping up to be a very successful career in music. CJ Holland is without a glimmer of a doubt one of the brightest new stars on the scene. Grab the MP3 of "Night & Day" after the break.
