Last week, I hosted the inaugural ARTIST #TALK with special guest Tinie Tempah in New York City. Set in a gorgeous penthouse in lower Manhattan with beautiful views of the city, British superstar Tinie Tempah shared some very candid insights and intimate details about his music and meteoric rise to fame. Produced in close partnership with HP, I conceived ARTIST #TALK as a platform for artists to talk about their inspirations, creativity and artistry in front of a live audience. The featured artist also plays a few tracks from a recent project and provides in-depth commentary about each song. Audience members are also invited to participate in the conversation to create a unique, interactive environment. In this very first ARTIST #TALK, Tinie talked candidly about his London childood, his Nigerian roots, building a scene around his music and his success up until now. I played a few of his tracks from an HP TouchSmart with Beats Audio technology to learn more about what inspired each song. I want to take a moment to thank Tinie Tempah for making time in his hectic schedule and for being his cool, charismatic self and making this ARTIST #TALK such a smash. Thank you HP for the partnership in bringing my concept for ARTIST #TALK to life and for being such a steadfast supporter of great ideas. Earlier this month, I introduced you to Queen of Heart's brand-new "Spanish Sahara" that she worked on with producer Dreamtrak. The emerging British singer has been working with a slew of other forward-thinking pop hitmakers as well to further to develop her mesmerizing synth pop sound. Some of her collaborators include people like Stuart Price, Sounds of Arrows and Monarchy. Interestingly, this line up of top-notch writers and producers mimics the list of people that Madonna is allegedly working with for her new album. Whether that is true or not, it sure sounds like Queen of Hearts is on the pulse of where electro pop is heading next. One of the people that Queen of Hearts has been writing with is Beatrice Hartherley. She co-wrote Kylie Minogue's "Closer" that was included on the pop singer's most recent album. Hatherley and Queen of Hearts co-wrote the track "Black Star" that is exclusively premiering here on ArjanWrites.com today. Produced by Shoreditch duo Devil's Gun, "Black Star" is a buzzing slice of nocturnal electro-pop with very subtle (and tasteful) dubstep stylings and a dark, grimy bassline that neatly balance out Queen of Heart's sweet and polished vocals. This tune delivers a firm punch that may leave you light-headed but most certainly impressed and anxious for more.
 
After putting on successful pop shows in Los Angeles, New York City and London, the Cherrytree Records family is now getting ready to pack its bags and hit the road this November in Canada for an extensive Pop Alternative Tour. But this is not just any tour. This Pop Alternative trek is best described as a traveling festival that will feature some of the brightest new stars on the pop scene. Headliners LMFAO will be joined by special guests Far East Movement, and newcomers Natalia Kills, Frankmusik, Rye Rye, Kay and Colette Carr. That's an amazing line up and I will be there, and so must you! Following the successful launch of Cherry Cola, this latest Cherrytree Records endeavour is once again proof that this Interscope imprint operates much like an independent label and continues to build its brand by thinking out of the box and celebrating its music in novel new ways. Cherrytree Records founder Martin Kierszenbaum could not be more thrilled with the launch of this very special tour in Canada. "It's a privilege to have this extraordinary caliber of artists on the first Cherrytree Pop Alternative Tour," he says in a press release. "It's also an honor to be launching it in Canada where Cherrytree has received so much love and support for our Pop Alternative sound."
Chart-topping and GRAMMY-nominated hip-pop duo LMFAO will headline the tour. "I'm excited to perform in Canada with all of our Cherrytree label mates! I guarantee each show will be a night you will never forget," the duo RedFoo says in a press release. I'm particularly excited to see Interscope artists Kay and Rye Rye on this tour. They're not formally part of the Cherrytree Records roster but they'd fit right in with their fresh and fly sound. Get all the tour dates on the Cherrytree Records web site.
