[VIDEO] Watch New Episode of The Producers With Starsmith

Starsmith-1

Vice's The Producers is a unique documentary video series that takes music fans behind the scenes and showcases a selection of the most innovative and exciting producers in the world who work in the Red Bull Studio London as their creative hub.

The newest installment of The Producers features none other than ArjanWrites.com fave Starsmith, one of pop's brightest new production talents. His skills and creativity behind the mixing desk have been the key to multiple number one albums for some of pop's biggest acts, including Ellie Goulding, Kylie Minogue and Cheryl Cole. In fact, it was the teaming of Starsmith and Goulding on "Lights" that turned out to be a breakthrough achievement for both of them.

In this 8-minute video, Starsmith talks candidly about what drives him as a producer, his fan obsessions (he loves Robyn!) and his remix work that kickstarted his career. He also takes a train trip back to the University in Surrey and shows us his old dorm room where he started his work with Goulding. Starsmith also introduces us to pop newcomer Elkka with whom he is currently working on new music.

Starsmith also makes a very valid point in the mini documentary when he talks about the importance of producers in today's pop world.

He argues, "The role of the producer has become a little bit blurred recently because a lot of music becomes defined by the producer rather than being defined by the artist, which is always how it used to be," he says. "If you listen to Michael Jackson's albums then I'm pretty sure that Quincy Jones had a massive deal to do with it."

The young producer also adds that he is back in the studio producing for, yes, Kylie Minogue. Look out for that hopefully soon. Watch video after the break.

[FREE MP3] The Good Natured "Video Voyeur" (Adrian Lux Remix)

The Good Natured 450 BW

The Adrian Lux and The Good Natured goodness keeps on coming today. After inviting The Good Natured to perform on his new artist single "Alive," studly Swedish producer Adrian Lux now returns the favor and produced a blistering remix of The Good Natured's new single "Video Voyeur" that was unleashed with a brand-new video last week.

The song was originally produced by none other than Patrick Berger, one Robyn's favorite soundboard pals, who knows exactly how to craft a timeless electro-pop gem.

Lux's remake of "Video Voyeur" is a throbbing club version that neatly accentuates the brooding pop noir textures of The Good Natured's original. Lux latches on to Sarah's stalker-like obsession and coats lyrics like "I can see you, follow you wherever you go" with massive synth strokes and a racing dance groove to amplify its menacing qualities.

Lux and The Good Natured sure seem to have similar mindsets when it comes to producing forward new pop and this remix is an excellent example of that. And best of all, you can grab the single cut of "Video Voyeur" (MP3) and the Adrian Lux remix (MP3) totally guilt-free. Highly recommended.

[VIDEO] Mohombi Premieres Video For New Single "In Your Head"

Mohombi 450

Before getting into Mohombi's new music, let's me first say that the Swedish singer is truly one of the nicest people on the pop scene. I had a chance to meet him earlier this year when we filmed a Cherrytree Pop Chop with RedOne during GRAMMY Week and Mohombi joined the conversation when RedOne talked about some of his new projects. Soft-spoken with a big, bright smile, Mohombi has a deep passion for everything pop, and he's an excellent vocalist and dancer who brings a distinct global vibe to his music.

The son of a Swedish mother and a Congolese father, Mohombi was born and raised in Congo with 14 siblings. His family escaped the war-torn country when Mohombi was fourteen years old and moved to Sweden. In Stockholm, Mohombi was exposed to Sweden's rich musical history and he quickly developed an interest in music and dance. After experimenting with hip hop and dancehall as a DJ with one of his brothers, Mohombi headed to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter.

In California, Mohombi was introduced to none other than hitmaker RedOne who is from Swedish/African descent as well, which created an immediate bond between the two. In fact, RedOne has been instrumental to the success of Mohombi often referring to the singer as his "young brother" who he signed to his 2012 imprint on Universal Music.

Together the two have been writing and producing music that has led to some very impressive accomplishments in Europe with platinum singles for Mohombi in Belgium, France, Spain, Holland and Sweden.

On January 10, Mohombi will be releasing his new single "In Your Head" and conquering America will be a top priority. Mohombi's new single is a modern-day spin on The Cranberries' evergreen that was produced by RedOne. It's a deliciously catchy tune that brings Mohombi's global attitude and worldwide sound to the planet in a big way.

[REMIX] Adrian Lux feat. The Good Natured "Alive" (Basto Remix)

Adrian Lux

Adrian Lux's collaboration with The Good Natured on "Alive" gets a sparkly Belgian make-over from Basto, one of Belgium's fastest-rising DJs and producers who is celebrating a massive hit across Europe with his blazing "Again And Again." On this brand-new revamp, Basto stays true to the energy of Lux's original version but adds a few dramatic new twists by interpersing Sarah McIntosh's haunting vocals with euphoric new melodic riffs that help up the dancefloor intensity of the song. It's a tightly-produced remix that underlines the excellence of the original. (You can grab the "Alive" remix EP on Rdio.)
