Washington DC's emerging pop sensation Crush Atlantic shows that the good pop doesn't have to come from pop capitals like London, Stockholm, New York or Los Angeles. Pop lives everywhere and Crush Atlantic is solid proof of that. The group is made up of James Park, Chris Jones and Chris Lamore who all are from the DC area.
Check out Crush Atlantic's flaming new "Keep This Night Alive" to hear what these talented three are all about. The song was produced by the very savvy Dan Book and Alexei Misoul of Misty Hill Music together with Andrew Goldstein. Book and Misoul sure know how to produce a solid hit. They just finished up working with chart-toppers Hot Chelle Rae for whom they wrote six tracks that are included on the group's forthcoming new album.
Crush Atlantic is all about making feel-good pop. "Basically we just want to create music that makes people feel awesome when they hear it," the group's Chris Lamore writes me. "We watch people shameless dance to the radio in their cars and we aspire to make the songs they're jamming to. It's too easy to get down in this world and we just want to make people feel good with our music."
"I don't think there is any better feeling in the world than cranking your new favorite song on repeat and feeling that music high," Lamore adds.
Crush Atlantic's radio-ready "Keep This Night Alive" is a perfect example of that straight up musical vision. The song perfectly captures the steady pop goodness that the trio is all about. This unstoppable ditty combines instantly-catchy power-pop hooks with high-grade, polished production stylings that has hit, hit, hit written all over it.
Quite frankly, "Keep This Night Alive" is one of those top-notch pop tracks that is too irresistible to be denied. So "flip that switch," download the MP3 and "move your body right." I know you'll want to.
Avicii's "Levels" is about to take over the world in a big, massive way. The song is already a top-requested smash on dancefloors on both sides of the Atlantic, and now the song is slowly but surely edging into the mainstream.
Last week, news broke that Avicii has signed to Interscope (U.S.) and Island Records (Europe) that will help to give "Levels" the big marketing push it deserves. In fact, I would not be surprised if pop radio in North America will put "Levels" in high rotation in the next few weeks. It's entirely possible.
While on the topic of Avicii and "Levels," check out this seamless mash up of "Levels" with The Knocks' "Dancing With The DJ" that was produced by Los Angeles' Captain Cuts. It adds a nice, new vocal dimension to Avicii's original that is pretty darn perfect. Listen and like it.
V V Brown's new single "Children" is not just a catchy, feel-good pop ditty. The song is a compelling call to action to change, grow up and care about the world around you. In my interview with V V last week at ARTIST #TALK in New York City, the socially aware British singer/songwriter explains that her new music packs a message of empowerment. "It's pop but with a message," she told the audience.
Produced by Chuck Harmony (Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Fantasia) and co-written by hitmaker Evan "Kidd" Bogart, "Children" starts out as a sweet and soothing nursery rhyme. But that gentle, nostalgic sound is forcefully interrupted by a stirring beat that will have you sit up and listen. And that's exactly the point. V V Brown is not here to be cute or conventional. The singer wants to alert you about some real issues she cares about.
She exlained during ARTIST #TALK, "I just feel that in the world at the moment, everybody has something to say. I think I just picked up on what a lot of people are feeling. I think I captured a zeitgeist."
Looking both gorgeous and concerned, the video for "Children" shows V V roaming the streets of Los Angeles and meeting the colorful people that make up the city. In key scenes of the video, V V holds up a mirror to make her point that we need look at the world around us in a new way and in order to accomplish change we have to start with ourselves first. Watch the video after the break. (Download V V Brown's "Children" on Rdio or iTunes.)
After creating a groundswell of interest with some incredibleacousticcovers of today's biggest hits on YouTube, Collin McLoughlin is sharing some fantastic original new music this week. The rising pop crooner is releasing his debut EP, titled "Stark Perspective," on iTunes today to give fans more of the heartfelt, genre-mashing pop balladry that his fans have been anxious to hear more of.
What sets McLoughlin apart from many other young singer/songwriters is that he has a found a way to innovatively combine delicate songwriting and intensely personal lyricism with progressive production stylings. Take for example the track "Relapse" that you can stream exclusively on this blog today. The track is an unorthodox brew of acoustic guitar pop that is fused with subtle drum 'n bass stylings that is truly compelling.
"Stark Perspective" is the result of McLoughlin's fascination with electronic pop music. "I fell in love with the infectious rhythms and strong melodies of the genre," McLoughlin writes. "I subsequently spent several months trying to pursue that style of music as a vocalist, largely due to the fact that I truly loved the genre and thought it worked well for a live atmosphere."
Instead of just performing electronic music, McLoughlin decided to get down and dirty with the soundboard, and look for ways to combine his acoustic roots with electronic production techniques. "I spent the summer learning the basics of production to create the best arrangements surrounding the acoustic driven songs I had created," he explains. "After spending countless hours messing around with production I had the idea to incorporate my two favorite genres together into what I saw as an innovative sound."
McLoughin's unconventional "Stark Perspective" serves up a perfect balance of finely-crafted singer/songwriter pop and gentle electronica that has a lot of artistic value to it. In a world where people are craving artistry that is authentic and real, McLoughin is a fresh new talent who delivers exactly that. (Download Collin McLoughlin "Stark Perspective" on iTunes.)
